A Visual Novel you say?

Oh yeah! I am excited to announce my next project, currently dubbed Moral Disposition! This will be a visual novel with similar themes as The Dragon's Assassin. Read more below or skip around to the parts that you care about most.

But first, something I know you want to hear:
There will always be free builds of this VN available on itch and when the game is complete it will stay free.

But KoboldCard..! You made it sound like you were going to be gone for a long time.

It's true. My last devlog related to The Dragon's Assassin made it seem as if I will be taking at least a good while before I work on releasing my own thing again. Let's just say that I felt especially good about this idea and I am having a real case of writer's itch. Learn more below!

Will you just give this up like tDA?

No way! tDA was a text-based game that had a lot of stuff going on. 'Feature creep' hit me hard. I wanted to do a lot, but did not have the commitment to get it done. There were an absolute ton of branches that were intended to all be uniquely written. If I completed the game I would have basically written two or three fantasy novels worth of content (Upwards of 300,000 words). I took a look at the scope of what I had set up for myself and decided it was best to drop the project altogether.

Moral Disposition, as it is currently known, will not only be a visual novel, meaning I have an entirely new way of telling stories through images, but it will also be planned out in a way that I can be comfortable adding to it on regular intervals. It will be semi-linear, with some important choices and bad ends to boot. Plus, I plan on creating a Patreon. If you read my last devlog, you know that I will be able to more easily justify this sort of development if I have financial incentive.

Wow! So you're also an artist?

I dabble, but no. I am definitely nowhere close enough to being good enough to draw for a proper VN. I am currently speaking to artists to draw both character sprites and CGs that this project will feature. No guarantees, but feel free to join my discord server and suggest artists if you want (link at the bottom of this post). I don't bite! (Unless you want???)

So what's with this talk of Patreon?

Full disclosure, the dream is for this project to be 'profitable' if possible. I am still making this because I have a passion for it, but obviously if I get paid for it, it'll come out faster and include more art. I am in school and going for a degree. This stuff is not cheap and time is not infinite. I want to be able to give those who support me something extra special. If spending time on this helps me with living expenses, I will be forever grateful.

Also, it is no secret that VNs attract way more attention than text-only games. I've got some artists  that I want to support by buying some commissions so I thought I may as well make something cool with these comms. Like I said, this is something I really want to make regardless of if it ends up being a big hit. The first build will have 2-3 CGs and several sprites. Patrons on Patreon will help me fund getting art commissioned.

Just tell me what the game is about!

This visual novel will be in the same-currently-unnamed setting as tDA, but on another side of the world. It's about an unlikely duo finding love in a world that doesn't accept them. Topics will get serious and I want to tell a story with this one. But if you know me at all, you know I have a potentially problematic obsession with lizards and dragons and all that good stuff. That will 100% show in Moral Disposition. If dragon men make you go hhhhhhhh, I suspect that this game will be right up your alley. There will also be non-con elements and bad endings in this game, similar to tDA, but the focus wont be so... direct on these things and you'll probably be going out of your way to get them. The protagonists (yes, there are two) in this game wont have such a 'sex-addict/actually into it' personality that games like Grove go for, unlike my last game. These people are struggling to find a happy place to live their lives, but a lot of bad people in their past and future seem to be trying to stop them short.

You done yet?

With the game? No way! With the post? Yeah... I am. I'm just excited and I hope this post gets you interested as well! My next devlog will be a full announcement once I have art drawn and a good portion of the first build done. Perhaps we will have a new name at that point, too. After that comes the first release of the game, which I hope will impress. See you shortly!
